Ian Spektor is a Kyiv-based sound artist and producer, working with field recordings, musique concrete, and electronics. His performance in Galao would be based on a sonic journal from 2022, material that he recorded in Kyiv and around. Public and private is key to this work, as it features an array of recordings from places as emblematic as Kyiv-Przemysl evacuation train or Central Army Hospital, to very intimate moments of family celebrations, solitary walks and deep-seated kitchen conversations. Spektor’s previous work focused on the study of early children's musicality, child’s immediate reactions to music and sounds – and this theme finds its place here too. Poignant and personal, his recordings manage to speak of war omitting the direct shock or violence porn.

He's in Stuttgart for a two-day festival Kyiv Dispatch co-curated by Kyiv-based Ukho Music and InterAKT of Stuttgart. Its concert program runs on Dec 3-4 and showcases some of the key Ukrainian composers and performers of new music (all in Theaterhaus), while installations primarily delve on documentary soundscapes (various places around Stuttgart).
